Sun, James Jian-Min,Ph.D.

Bio

Dr. James Jian-Min Sun is currently the associate dean of School of Sciences, professor and chair of the Department of Psychology, Deputy director of Center for Leadership Studies, and adjunct professor at the School of Labor and Human Resource, Renmin University of China. Dr. Sun is a leading scholar in human resource management and Industrial-organizational psychology and a management consultant in China. He was a Fulbright scholar at University of Florida in 2007-2008 and has studied and lectured in more than 30 universities world-wide. He has published in journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Leadership Quarterly, International Journal of Human Resource Management, International Journal of Psychology, Journal of Career Assessment, Acta Psychologica Sinica, Journal of Applied Psychology (Chinese), Journal of Social Psychology (Chinese) among others and authored more than 20 books in applied psychology, human resource management, organizational behavior, and leadership development. He is the area editor of International Journal of Emerging Markets and on the editorial board of Academy of Management Learning and Education, Journal of Business and Psychology, Journal of Managerial Psychology. He is a member of IAAP, IACCP, AOM, SIOP, AASP. He has extensive experiences in leadership development and management practices. In the past 20 years, he also served as senor management consultant for companies such as Huawei Technologies, TCL, Lenovo, COFCO, China Mobile, Smith-Kline & French, Motorola China, Samsung China, to name a few. He is frequently invited as a trainer for executive development and leadership training by both domestic and international companies in China. Dr. Sun is interested in applying scientific psychological principles into organization management and improving the effectiveness of human resource management in Chinese organizations. He has been involved and active in Chinese Association of Social Psychology and has been working on indigenous social psychology for more than 15 years. He was deeply influenced by Prof. Kuo-Shu Yang and Prof ZhongFang Yang in doing research and teaching in indigenous psychology. He is working on Chinese leadership style and Chinese model of human resource management practices. As the chair of the department, he also encourages his colleagues to do research with an indigenous perspective.
